Job Description

Inter-American Development Bank

We improve lives.

The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and enthusiastic people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.

About this position

Fostering resilient and better development requires, among other things, a new generation of development planning approaches, programs, and policies. The IDB recognizes this need and the challenges that a transition toward this new generation implies. The Climate Change Solutions Division's central mandate is to help our clients address them. The Division is part of the Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CSD) Sector within the IDB's Vice-Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge (VPS). CSD conceptualizes, prepares, supports the execution, and coordinates sustainability-focused Bank operations in borrowing member countries. Our main activities include lending operations, technical assistance, and knowledge generation related to territorial development, sustainable cities, biodiversity, environment, disaster risk management and climate change. Due to the cross-cutting nature of our work, we work in a multi-sectoral fashion with other VPS sectors, country departments and representation offices in LAC, as well as those areas of the Bank that lead on institutional partnerships, fiduciary matters, and development effectiveness. The present position will certainly require extensive collaboration across the IDB Group. The position reports to the Sector Manager for CSD.

What you will do

You will support the Bank's strategy and actions with respect to climate and resiliency.

  • Advise IDB Management on the development of climate-resilient strategies, instruments and approaches that respond to the current and potential needs of borrowing member countries.

  • Consolidate the integration of climate mitigation and adaptation into Bank operations, programming, and policies, working in close collaboration with different areas of the IDB and IDB group.

  • Be a trusted advisor to IDB counterparts, including senior government officials, on matters related to climate and resiliency.

  • Lead high-quality knowledge work and/or applied research on climate issues, especially on emerging, rapidly evolving, and cutting-edge topics, with a focus on helping countries increase their climate resilience.

  • Further strengthen the Bank's participation in climate-focused knowledge networks, including strategic partnerships with relevant institutions from government, international organizations, regional agencies, the academic community, the private sector, and civil society.

  • Represent the IDB at the MDB's Climate heads and other multilateral and international fora in coordination with the office of the special advisor on climate change.

  • Lead, manage, coach and mentor interdisciplinary and multi-cultural groups of staff and consultants working on climate-change issues at IDB, located in any of our field offices.
